There's a lot on the line when every patient's the goodest girl, boy, or lizard. Enter NZ's leading animal hospital (owned and operated by Drs. Evans and Shelly Bay) for an all-day residency of the heart, where medical professionals save furry lives every hour... but can they save their own? Bay’s Anatomy (14 March 2020 at Fringe at the Gryphon) brings Soap Factory’s brilliant improvisors back to Fringe for a day of melodrama, mayhem, and medical misadventure.
“It’s everything you love about your favourite medical drama, but with animals. And laughter,” says director Jennifer O’Sullivan. “It’s also everything you love about binge-watching but live - we pack more twists and turns into one day of theatre than you’d get in a perm.”
Last year’s Soap Factory production So You Think You Khandallah tested out a nightly run at NZ Comedy Festival - but Bay’s Anatomy marks its return to the improv marathon format.
“For something like this, we’re more comfortable with jamming it all into one day - and our audience feels similar! There are people who come along for the whole day, they set up a nest with snacks and settle in for the full experience. Sometimes we need them to remind us what happened in Episode 1…”
And who (or what) will we find when we get admitted? Romance, conflicts, emergencies and more as the doctors, nurses and patient owners throw everything into their work on March 14. From the creators of Deep Space Naenae, Lyall Baywatch, and So You Think You Khandallah, you won’t want to miss this epic event. Come for one episode, stay all of them, or dip in and out - see three episodes and the rest are on us!
